The VP Strategy & Business Operations plays a pivotal role in shaping MSG’s brand partnerships and driving strategic initiatives across all properties. This role will lead cross-functional initiatives that align with long term brand value, revenue growth, fan engagement through strategic initiatives, innovative campaigns and efficient operational structures.
The VP Strategy & Business Operations will be an integral part of the newly formed Commercial team. The Strategy & Business Operations group will be responsible for overseeing the sales and service strategy for the sports and entertainment portfolio of businesses at MSG, including renewals/upsells and management of Enterprise Marketing related activities across all marketing, digital & corporate communications functions while managing relationships with external stakeholders to achieve business goals. What will you do?
- Support the EVP Global Sports & Entertainment Partnerships with leading and defining the company’s overall sales strategy, aligning with long-term revenue targets.
- Create, execute, and implement the business development strategy and strategic sales plan for the following MSG Businesses: Sports, Entertainment, Networks.
- Serve as key liaison between Global Sales and Partnerships team and key constituents around the company, e.g., Executive and C-Suite Level, Marketing, Building Ops, MSG, Knicks, Rangers, Radio City, Security, Rockettes, Corporate Responsibility/Government Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion, People Practices, Garden of Dreams, etc.
- Perform in-depth data collection and analysis to inform vertical level decision-making, framing trade-offs and providing actionable recommendations that balance risk and reward.
- Build and evaluate business cases for new initiatives and innovations across MSG properties and present recommendations to the management team.
- Responsible for helping pitch sales platforms, evaluating new business opportunities, presenting recommendations to the management team, negotiating, and closing business deals.
- Responsible for maximizing utilization of partner contractual marketing funds, growing the activation efforts of the partner base.
- Develop upsell opportunities for partner base as well as being responsible for prioritization of initiatives that partners are asked to support.
- Key role in prospecting through monitoring of other regional sports & entertainment networks and developing strategy and creative ideas for outreach.
- Lead role in approving pitches inclusive of assets, pricing and strategy prior to being pitched
- Lead role in connecting with digital agencies to assist in maximizing the revenue of our digital assets.
What do you need to succeed?
- 15+ years’ experience in strategic marketing and sponsorship execution.
- Proven track record of managing brand strategy at a senior level, with strong storytelling and positioning skills.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&Ls and driving revenue.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage team of 20+ people and ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in creating sponsorship proposals and partner ideas
- Ability to establish relationships with all levels of the company, sponsors/clients/teammates and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, etc.) to extract and interpret data.
