POSITION DESCRIPTION
This Music Teacher, under the general supervision of the Principal, would work with the team of other music teachers in the district to provide basic fundamentals of choral and instrumental music instruction for middle school choir and band students. Requirements would include working with both choral and instrumental students in grades 5-8 as well as assist with the high school band. This teacher would be required to plan for performances and would also be expected to help with the middle school musical production and middle school solo and ensemble contest.
Qualifications
- Valid Ohio Teaching License; with music major and the authority to teach music.
- Previous teaching experience in choral AND instrumental music desirable.
- Ability to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and musical experiences.
- Ability to establish effective rapport with pupils and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, and other staff members.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Implements the mission, goals, objectives, policies, and course of study of the district as adopted by the Board of Education.
- Selects and utilizes repertoire of all types of music that are appropriate for age and skill level of pupils.
- Plans a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Encourages pupils to develop choral and instrumental musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
- Uses professionally accepted teaching strategies, techniques and materials to achieve identified lesson objectives.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
- Maintains open communication with parents regarding pupils’ progress or concerns regarding pupils.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an atmosphere in the classroom conducive to learning and an orderly environment during group rehearsals and performances.
- Creates, with assistance from pupils, a functional and attractive environment for learning.
- Maintains surveillance over school-owned music, instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs for instruments as required.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in professional growth activities.
- Participates in faculty meetings and committee works, as requested.
- Keeps current on work email and website communications and technological proficiencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
