TITLE:  High School Choral/Music Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal or designee

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

To create a flexible instructional music program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth in addition to establishing effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

 

  • Teach music fundamentals and appreciation of music through choral music.
  • Teach music fundamentals and appreciation of music through exploration in secondary music.
  • Teach world music and music appreciation..
  • Teach music fundamentals and basic guitar skills.
  • Plans instruction incorporating elements of music appropriate to the developmental level of students.
  • Plans, prepares and presents music programs at varying grade levels during the school year.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Understands high school level students and has the ability to adapt instructional strategies and classroom management to meet their unique instructional needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during classes, group rehearsals and performances while ensuring that students enjoy music.
  • Communicates with parents, other teachers, school counselors and administration regarding student progress.
  • Works cooperatively with other teachers to integrate music with other curricular areas.
  • Maintains professional competence through selected professional development and selected professional growth activities related to music.  
  • Selects, requisitions, and provides minor repairs towards the maintenance of  school-owned property, including school instruments, books, music, instructional materials and equipment, including inventory records.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  2. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as
    required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
  3. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at
    twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor of Arts Degree
  2. Valid Washington State Teacher Certification with appropriate endorsement to teach choral music.
  3. Knowledge and experience using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with parents and to clearly articulate school programs and State of Washington State Standards for Music.
  5. Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to decision-making in collaboration with administrators, other staff members and parent community.
  6. Knowledge of and ability to design and assess instruction for a classroom of diverse learners.

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is required to be effective in the position and to maintain certification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date: 2025-2026 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary: $60,668 - $114,347 annual salary. Based on education and experience Per OEA CBA - 2025-2026 Salary Schedule 
Retirement: Pension through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems
