Primary Purpose:


To provide students with an opportunity to explore and develop musical skills, appreciation, and performance abilities. The elementary music teacher will create a positive and engaging learning environment that supports creativity, cultural awareness, and foundational music education for all students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or related field

  • Valid teaching certificate appropriate for music

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of music theory, vocal techniques, and instrumental instruction

  • Ability to design and implement music lessons aligned to TEKS or state standards

  • Classroom management and student engagement strategies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in music preferred, but not required

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver daily music instruction for students in grades Pre-K through 5

  • Teach general music concepts, rhythm, melody, harmony, music appreciation, and performance skills

  • Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, listening activities, and music literacy into lessons

  • Prepare students for and coordinate performances such as winter concerts, spring musicals, and other school events

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners

Classroom and Program Management:

  • Establish and maintain an orderly, productive, and positive classroom environment

  • Maintain care of musical instruments, technology, and classroom resources

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of student achievement

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and participate in campus/district professional development

Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and performance events

  • Support school-wide events and collaborate with colleagues for cross-curricular projects

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development

  • Uphold district policies, procedures, and ethical standards

  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and school events
