Primary Purpose:
To provide students with an opportunity to explore and develop musical skills, appreciation, and performance abilities. The elementary music teacher will create a positive and engaging learning environment that supports creativity, cultural awareness, and foundational music education for all students.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or related field
Valid teaching certificate appropriate for music
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of music theory, vocal techniques, and instrumental instruction
Ability to design and implement music lessons aligned to TEKS or state standards
Classroom management and student engagement strategies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Prior teaching experience in music preferred, but not required
Plan and deliver daily music instruction for students in grades Pre-K through 5
Teach general music concepts, rhythm, melody, harmony, music appreciation, and performance skills
Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, listening activities, and music literacy into lessons
Prepare students for and coordinate performances such as winter concerts, spring musicals, and other school events
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
Establish and maintain an orderly, productive, and positive classroom environment
Maintain care of musical instruments, technology, and classroom resources
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of student achievement
Collaborate with grade-level teams and participate in campus/district professional development
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and performance events
Support school-wide events and collaborate with colleagues for cross-curricular projects
Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development
Uphold district policies, procedures, and ethical standards
Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and school events
