Position Overview:
Runge ISD is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as the Assistant Band Director and Elementary Music Teacher. This dual-role position supports our thriving high school band program—currently the district’s largest student organization—and provides foundational music instruction to elementary students in grades PK–5. The ideal candidate is passionate about music education across developmental levels, committed to high-quality instruction, and eager to contribute to a culture of excellence and school pride.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assistant Band Director (Grades 6–12):
Assist the Head Band Director with all aspects of the secondary band program, including marching and concert bands
Support music instruction during class, sectionals, and after-school rehearsals
Accompany and supervise students at UIL events, contests, and performances
Assist with organizing instrument inventory, maintenance, and music library
Foster positive relationships with students and promote participation in the band program
Elementary Music Teacher (Grades PK–5):
Develop and deliver age-appropriate music instruction aligned with TEKS
Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, and music literacy in lessons
Plan and coordinate campus music programs, concerts, and performances
Collaborate with campus staff to support fine arts integration and student engagement
Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment that supports creativity and expression
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field
Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Music EC–12 certification
Strong instrumental background and ability to work across multiple grade levels
Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
Commitment to supporting all learners in a rural, inclusive, and community-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience in band and/or general music
Familiarity with UIL regulations, marching band fundamentals, and beginner band instruction
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
